Mike Braal, Ski Guide

Here is my busy autobiography -

I now divide my year between Colorado, Alaska and short trips to visit family and the southwest desert.

Mike Braal, Colorado Cross Country Ski GuideGrowing up in western New York State, skiing became a wonderful part of my life.  Somehow I always felt an internal desire to live in Colorado, the lure of the mountains, skiing and nature.  I made my escape in 1970 and bought my present home in Clark.  After 38 years, it is still a wonderful place to live - Friends, nature and a great job ski guiding/instructing at The Home Ranch.

After several years living in Colorado, I had the same internal youthful buzz.  This time I could feel Alaska beckoning in a powerful way.  On every camping trip I would prepare as if setting out in the Alaska bush country.  I became a student of navigation, weather and camping in bear country.  My first trip to Alaska was in 1984 and I have been back each summer since; with my 25th season coming up.  Over the years I have been a river and hiking guide in the Brooks Range, sea kayaking guide, sport fishing guide and a naturalist and photographer.

In 2001, after years of being a Captain for hire I purchased a very comfortable 45 foot vessel and started my own business, Whale Bay Charters.  I offer week long nature charters in the area of Glacier Bay National Park.  Besides the natural beauty and incredible wildlife of Colorado & Alsaka, I especially enjoy spending time with my family and friends and all of the interesting poeple I get to meet at The Home Ranch and in Alaska.
