Children’s Program

In the summer our children’s program is chock-full of wonderful activities.  The ranch itself provides the ultimate playground.  Counselors are available from 8:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night.  The Home Ranch counselors are a fun bunch who do more than supervise the children; they are active participants in all the activities as well. Now that’s energy!

Because of our terrific riding opportunities, we encourage the kids to ride.  Not only will they have a personal horse for the week but riding with the counselors and other children is a great way to develop friendships.  Kids can always choose to ride with their parents, but would usually rather hang out with their buddies.

When kids aren’t up for riding and need an afternoon off, many other options are available including fishing, playing volleyball or kickball, and swimming.  Our recreation room is well stocked with arts and crafts materials, foosball, ping pong, and games for indoor entertainment.  The shallow creek that meanders past the lodge offers hours of entertainment for racing handmade boats of every description.  An early children’s dinner allows the kids to eat and run before the sun sets.  Evening activities range from a hot dog and marshmallow roasting party to activities like Frisbee and Capture the Flag…it all depends on what the kids want to do.  The Friday night rodeo in Steamboat Springs is popular for kids of all ages!

What about those kids who love to rock scramble? We now offer beginning rock climbing during the week.  A qualified outfitter provides excellent instruction for those who want to try their hand at off-ranch technical climbing.

Anyone for a rock scramble?

We know that teens’ interests don’t always coincide with those of younger kids, so we’ve developed a teen program tailored to them.  In addition to the regular riding, hiking, and fishing options available to everyone, teens can head to town for a pizza and bowling night, head to the hills for an overnight campout, or head out on the trails en masse.  And there’s always the recreation room for downtime.

We tailor our children’s program to the ages and interests of each week’s group.  Our creative counselors are flexible enough to adapt to what the kids want to do, assuming it’s safe and fun!  Parents are also encouraged to join us for activities such as rock climbing, rafting, and even lessons on navigating a compass.

Note: Children must be 6 or older to come to the ranch in the summer.
