Phoenix~June 2009

July 1st, 2009

Can you tell me the significance of this month’s horse of the month?  Would you like a few clues?

He returned to the ranch last fall as a two year old, but was originally purchased during the Canadian Sport Horse Sale.

Here are a few other pictures that might help as well.  Do you see any resemblance?

Correct! Pheonix is the father of (from left to right) Monroe, Sage and Shiloh.  Three of the newest additions to The Home Ranch herd.

First Hike of the Year

June 15th, 2009

Today, I dusted off my hiking boots and pack for the first hike of the year.  I was joined by returning guests

Paul, Marianne, Alyce and Hilary.  We decided to start off ’slow & easy’ and climb Home Mountain.  (For those of you not familiar with our hiking program, Home Mountain is anything but.) I can only imagine what we will be doing by the end of the week.

Rumor has it that the Slyvonia Trail head is open, but that Gold and Gilpin Lakes are still unreachable due to high, fast creek crossings.  Hahn’s Peek, North Fork, Coulten Creek, Hinman Lake & overlook, Diamond Park, Prospect West and the Mad Creek/Red Dirt loop are all on our list of hikes to accomplish this week.

We have received a lot of rain over the last couple of weeks and the valley is an amazing array of greens!  The wildflowers are blooming and very vibrant this year; it should be a great year for flowers, if the moisture continues.  Give me a call for the lastest trail updates.

Slicker ~ May 2009

June 8th, 2009

It is hard to believe that Slicker has only been at The Home Ranch for seven years. During that time he has helped many kids, like Alice, learn to ride.

He is an amazing horse with an unbelievable amount of personality.  This winter he kept the expecting mothers company.  We turned him out with the main herd yesterday and  he was very worried about his ‘girls.’  After a little bit he realized that all was okay and that he was with his old buddies.

Slicker is looking forward to another great summer.
